Instagram Updates Metrics to Focus Creators on Views

The social world is constantly evolving daily, LITERALLY! Just this week LinkedIn adds verification for business pages, TikTok shuts down incentive programs in Europe (that one is going to hurt for some), Meta removes detailed targeting exclusions from Ad Campaigns and the biggest change was announced by Instagram!! Today, Instagram announced that they have “reformed” their analytics to make “Views” the main focus.

So what does this really mean? With the shift, the goal put forth by Instagrams Chief, Adam Mosseri, is “to convince creators that they should stop worrying about their follower count and start focusing on reach instead”. We believe this is a huge win for those who create authentic content and truly connect with their audiences. We also feel this make AI generated content less prominent and less likely to clog your feed. At CZA, we preach a lot to clients that followers are vanity numbers and we’re excited to see this shift. It’s views, sharing, and engagement that matters!

This will change the game in watching your metrics and honing your skills at connecting with your audience. Now sharing content you love by forwarding it onto your friends through DMs will count. In fact, every single time you view the same content more than once FINALLY COUNTS!!! We all love to see our follower count go up, and that will really never change. But sharing content which then has the potential to be shared again will help businesses better align their social strategy to grow.

At the end of the day, the main goal of your content should always be to EDUCATE, ENGAGE, and ENTERTAIN.
